Tottenham target Hector Moreno put up for sale by Espanyol

Espanyol are reportedly ready to sell Tottenham target Hector Moreno in a bid to balance the books.

Tottenham's 2-1 win over Everton was their best Premier League performance for some time, and manager Mauricio Pochettino finally seems to have found a stable centre back partnership.

After toying with Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches in the heart of the defence, Pochettino went with Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen against the Toffees - and they were superb throughout.

Yet with question marks over the futures of Chiriches and Vertonghen, Pochettino should still be looking to add another centre back to the mix in January.

One of the names most strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane is Espanyol's Hector Moreno, who was signed by Pochettino during his time with the La Liga club.

A star at the World Cup for Mexico, Moreno was linked with Manchester United over the summer, but suffered a broken tibia, ruling him out for around five months.

Now back in training and stepping up his recovery, Moreno has been targeted by Pochettino - and the Argentine has been handed a huge boost.

In a bid to balance the books, Espanyol are ready to let Moreno go in January, according to Barcelona-based newspaper Sport.

If they don't find any suitors for Moreno next month, it's reported that Espanyol will look to extend Moreno's contract, which has just 18 months left to run on.

Pochettino will be well aware of the financial struggles which crippled him at Espanyol, and could pounce to land a bargain in Moreno, who was so impressive under him previously.

According to Sport, it would cost just around £5.5m to convince Espanyol to sell, and if he can return to the form that he showed before his injury, that could prove to be a bargain for Tottenham and Pochettino.
