Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Vertonghen wants improvement, Kane on Pochettino

A round up of news stories this morning about Tottenham Hotspur.

Jan Vertonghen was pleased with a certain aspect of Tottenham’s defence during the win against Everton.

The Belgian has commented on the defensive positioning of the side but insists the team need to do more when they have the ball.

“I think we can do better in possession, but I think we showed character,” said the Belgian.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has paid tribute to Mauricio Pochettino’s tactics in the 2-1 win against Everton.

The result prevented another negative Monday morning for the club following a match after the Europa League Thursday night games.

“It feels amazing to get the win. It was tough out there, Everton are a great side - We caught them on the ball and we managed to counter and get the goal. That's what the manager has been working on and it's good to see it working on the pitch,” he told Sky Sports News.

Pochettino is eyeing a purple patch for striker Roberto Soldado, who scored what turned out to be the winner yesterday.

The Spaniard has struggled ever since he made a big money transfer to White Hart Lane from Valencia.

“You need to give confidence to the player to keep working hard - He scored and he is happy, he is more free because he feels the pressure. It is important for the team that the striker scores goals,” said Soldado.
