Arsenal latest: Star targets Boxing Day return; £37m man linked again

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Emirates…

Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has been speaking about when he hopes to be back in action for the Gunners.

The French full-back has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury in mid-September but he has since returned to training and has told L’Equipe when he hopes to be back playing again.

“I think the group sessions resume next week,” he said. “The goal is to be back before the end of the year and to play on Boxing Day or even a little before.”

Arsenal face Queens Park Rangers at the Emirates Stadium on December 26 and Arsene Wenger will be glad to have Debuchy back as soon as possible following the club’s defensive issues this season.

In other news, the Daily Star has picked up on claims from the Sun that Arsenal are preparing a January bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho following Jack Wilshere’s injury.

The defensive midfielder has long been linked with a move to North London and his exceptional talent means he would add considerable quality to Wenger’s squad. But he will not come cheap with the latest report claiming Arsenal will have to pay the player’s £37million release-clause.
