Arsenal morning news: Mings and McCarthy linked; Cazorla on Welbeck

All the latest news and gossip from the Emirates this morning.

Arsenal are said to be eyeing up an £8 million move for Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings. The talented defender has been linked with several teams in recent weeks including Chelsea.

But the young Tractor Boy, who began his career with Southampton, is believed to be Arsenal's preferred defensive target as the price tag for Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels continues to rise.

Mings, who can play wither left-back or centre-back, knows Arsenal player Calum Chambers from their time together on the South Coast, which may also help the deal.

Arsenal will also target Everton midfielder James McCarthy in the January window. The former Wigan player has been outstanding for Everton so far this season and it is reported that Arsenal will bid £16 million for his services.

However, McCarthy is a key member of the Everton midfield and Roberto Martinez is under no pressure to sell the Irishman. So if Arsenal do want him, they will have to pay a lot more than the £16 million currently being mooted.

Finally, and Santi Cazorla has been praising the relationship he has developed with Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck.

The England international scored for Arsenal yesterday, as they defeated West Brom 1-0 away from home.

And his goal came from a delightful delivery by Cazorla.

After the game the Spaniard told the media:

"It’s good when I play with Welbeck and he put in a good performance for the team. Now we need to continue to play the same."
