Redknapp: Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas are the difference for Chelsea this season

Jamie Redknapp believes the summer arrivals have given Chelsea a different edge this season.

Chelsea take on Sunderland this evening at the Stadium of Light, hoping to avenge the Black Cats famous win at Stamford Bridge last season.

This is indeed a different Chelsea side to last campaign.

Jose Mourinho looks set to be taking Chelsea to Premier League glory this season as they sit pretty at the top of the Premier League, seemingly on their way to title glory.

Much of that improvement comes from their summer business.

Chelsea spent big to bring in Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa this summer from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid respectively.

This week a former Tottenham footballer has been speaking about the impact of the new signings.

Jamie Redknapp, who is now a respected pundit for Sky Sports, believes that the €68 million pair are the reason for their apparent invincibility.

In his Sky Sports column he stated:

"The difference this season, though, is that Chelsea have genuine quality to hit back with; Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas have been sensational.

"After Chelsea's 5-0 win over Schalke, John Terry said this might be the strongest Chelsea side he's been a part of.

I wouldn’t describe Fabregas as a Mourinho-type player. He likes to field players who are defensive-minded but the Portuguese has unleashed his midfielders this year and let the team go and play. With Oscar, Fabregas and Eden Hazard behind Costa it really is a formidable front four at Chelsea."

Today the Spanish pair will hope to continue being the difference for Chelsea as they hope to take down Sunderland.
