Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal was full of praise for Ander Herrera after the Spaniard made his first appearance for the club in five weeks
The 25-year-old has had an interesting start to life as a United player since making the reported €36 million summer transfer to Old Trafford from La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao.
After an impressive start, Herrera picked up an injury in his fifth appearance at West Bromwich Albion last month and was subsequently ruled out of action for five weeks.
The Spaniard initially started the match against Hull City from the substitutes' bench, but an early injury sustained to Angel di Maria forced van Gaal to shuffle his pack and introduce Herrera as an attacking wide midfielder.
The former Zaragoza man evidently didn’t let his recent injury setback play on his mind, performing well throughout and grabbing an assist.
After the match, Van Gaal told reporters how impressed he has been by Herrera’s fitness and commented how his steady performance will certainly boost morale.
“I have to say Herrera came in and did fantastic, I was very pleased with how he did,” he told MUTV. “He is a very fit player which is why I also let him play in the Reserves. I'm very happy for him because he needed a good performance.”
Herrera has surprisingly been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent weeks with reports in Spain suggesting that a January deal could be on the cards.
Such speculation, however, is likely to be unfounded as the Red Devils are yet to see the best of their talented midfielder and his potential is unquestionably worth waiting around for.
