Paul Merson has backed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to score for Arsenal against West Bromwich Albion away from home on Saturday.
Arsenal will head into the game with confidence following a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund at the Emirates Stadium in midweek that saw them book a place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Merson, a former Arsenal player, believes that Arsene Wenger’s team will be too strong for the hosts and wrote on Skysports.com: “I fancy Arsenal, I think they’ll go on a roll now after Wednesday's win over Dortmund.
“Defensively the other night, they were very good. We all know they can score goals. I watched West Brom last week and they got well rinsed at Chelsea and they were well beaten the week before at home to Newcastle.
“If they don’t pick up from either of those two performances, they’ll be well beaten again. I fancy Oxlade-Chamberlain to score; he’s getting better and better. So I’m going to go 2-0 Arsenal, and another clean sheet.”
Merson’s prediction that Arsenal will win Saturday should not come as a surprise, but it is indeed brave of the 46-year-old to claim that England international Oxlade-Chamberlain will score at The Hawthorns.
Let’s see if the England international attacker finds the target against West Brom…
