Supporters also took issue with Lewis McGugan’s display last night…

Watford’s 2-1 loss at Birmingham last night was no disaster. The Hornets are only down to third in the Championship, one point off top.

But it was the manner of the defeat that displeased fans on Twitter after the game.

Boss Slavisa Jokanovic made five changes to his side and many felt they were unneeded.

On the loss, Jokanovic told BBC Sport: “I am disappointed because it wasn’t a good result for us. We tried to take control of the game and we had possession of the ball but we played slowly.

“We made some changes because we had some injured people and Fernando [Forestieri] didn’t start the last game. It’s not an excuse, I don’t believe my team was tired.”

Watford supporters were not in the mood for excuses after the game, however, reflecting badly on the performances of Lewis McGugan and Ikechi Anya in particular.

Anya made a name for himself recently after scoring against world champions Germany while on international duty with Scotland. There, though, the 26-year-old was playing out wide. Here, he struggled in central midfield.

The same can be said of McGugan – and fans made their feelings known after the game. It is no time for panic, though it is a case of dropped points that could have been oh so different. For Birmingham City, meanwhile, what a start it’s been for Gary Rowett.
