Cardiff City 3-1 Leeds United: Neil Redfearn starts reign with defeat

Leeds United conceded three times in the second half to suffer a 3-1 defeat to Cardiff City away from home in the Championship.

Neil Redfearn’s first game in charge of Leeds United as the full-time manager ended in defeat, as the West Yorkshire outfit went down 3-1 to Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium in the Championship on Saturday.

The first chance of the game fell to Cardiff’s Peter Whittingham, whose shot from outside the Leeds box was saved by goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

Steve Morison’s header from Stephen Warnock’s cross went wide just minutes before, before Adam Le Fondre went close for the Bluebirds.

Bruno Ecuele Manga of Cardiff and Souleymane Doukara of Leeds exchanged chances just before the half-hour mark, as the first half finished goalless.

However, Cardiff stepped up their game in the second period and broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Manga headed home from close range.

The Welsh outfit virtually wrapped up the points midway through the second half when former Manchester United striker Federico Macheda fired home from outside the Leeds penalty box.

Alex Mowatt halved the deficit on 77 minutes, but it did not prove to be enough as Cardiff scored their third goal through Kenwyne Jones seven minutes from full time.
