After slamming Darko Milanic’s appointment from the first minute, Phil Neville believes he has been proven right after the Slovenian was sacked.

After just a month in the job, Leeds United manager Darko Milanic has tonight been sacked following six games without a win. The Slovenian arrived from Austian outfit Sturm Graz in September as a replacement for David Hockaday at Elland Road, but Italian owner Massimo Cellino has already pulled the trigger on his time in Yorkshire.

Whilst most Leeds fans backed the 46-year-old, some pundits weren’t quite so enthusiastic. It was well documented that former Manchester United defender Phil Neville wasn’t a fan of the appointment, saying that Neil Redfearn should have been handed the job after impressing as caretaker manager.

“He deserves the job to be fair”, Neville said on Redfearn in September. “I think it’s a disgrace that they’ve gone to Slovenia, Leeds United, and brought back a lad, Milanic; I’ve never heard of him.”

“They’ve got somebody with the quality and the experience [in Redfearn], and who knows what the club’s all about, and if they are a club that want to bring through their own players…well this lad’s been doing it for the last however many number of years”, Neville added, “It just seems a stupid appointment to me.”

Now, the BBC pundit believes he is vindicated in his criticism after Milanic was sacked this evening with no win to his name as Leeds boss, and took to Twitter to state his case.
