An interview with Outlast devs Red Barrels’ co-founder reveals they’re working on a sequel.

Outlast was a well-recieved first-person survival horror game from developer Red Barrels, in which players are tasked with investigating an old psychiatric hospital that’s had some shady goings on. The devs have confirmed in an interview with Bloody Disgusting yesterday that they are currently working on a sequel to the game.

‘After shipping the XB1 version of Outlast, we took some time to analyze our situation and we quickly realized we had at least another horror game in us,’ said Red Barrels co-founder Phillippe Morin. He added: ‘So, yes, we are working on Outlast 2.’

The Mount Massive Asylum was the setting for the first game, but Morin explains that the sequel ‘will have different characters and a different setting,’ however it ‘will take place in the same universe as Outlast.’

‘We might go back to Mount Massive Asylum one day, but for now we have new ideas and themes we’d like to explore and we think we’re cooking up something special,’ Morin explained.

My girlfriend and I took on the horror that is Outlast earlier this year, and it’s safe to say we were sufficiently scared out of our skin. Read our experience over here.
