Liverpool v Real Madrid: Expected Reds lineup for Anfield clash

News from Anfield today, Moreno is expected to return, and start in tonight's game.

Formation: Possible 4-1-2-1-2

First 11: Mignolet; Johnson, Lovren, Skrtel, Moreno, Gerrard, Allen, Henderson, Coutinho, Sterling, Balotelli.

Bench: Jones, Kolo, Manquillo, Lucas, Lallana, Lambert, Markovic.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to use Alberto Moreno's first hand knowledge of Real Madrid to help address their unquestionable attacking threat.

This week Moreno told, "I'm lucky enough to have played against Madrid for Sevilla, We had a bit of a problem against them at the Santiago Bernabeu, where they scored seven times against us. However, things were different in Sevilla, where we beat them 2-1”.

With Rodgers looking to slide in Moreno at the expense of Enrique, and appearing to continue to show support for Mario Balotelli up front, what else can we expect tonight?

Word from Anfield is Rodgers is initially going to adopt a midfield diamond of Gerrard holding, Henderson playing down the right and Allen occupying the left wing. Coutinho will play at the tip of the diamond behind both Sterling and Balotelli, who will be the strike force.

The formation is thought to be very flexible, enabling a rapid change of tactics if a switch to a 4-3-3 is advocated. If the 4-3-3 were to be implemented, it would be assumed Henderson, Allen and Gerrard would make up the three-man midfield, with the latter playing deep. Coutinho and Sterling on the wings, with Balotelli as a lone striker.
