Harry Redknapp's revealing comments about Adel Taarabt were quite something on Sunday afternoon.
Frustration following QPR's last-gasp 3-2 defeat to Liverpool had obviously got to the Rs boss. Who wouldn't be frustrated if your side had defended 'worse than an under-11 team' (as someone in the dressing room apparently put it) and scored two own goals?
After the game, then, when Redknapp was asked about Taarabt, he didn't have the patience to be anything other than blunt. He claimed that he can no longer defend a player who is 'three stone overweight' and refuses to train.
This is nothing new, though, of course. Those that follow QPR closely know that Redknapp has been disappointed with the Moroccan all season. Recently, he claimed that he would sell the forward to anyone willing to buy him - except that no one is.
His latest comments, meanwhile, have split opinion. Many back Harry and say the club should sack 25-year-old Taarabt if he is indeed behaving this way. Others, however, believe the QPR boss is simply looking for excuses.
And, as always, there is a middle way: to simply laugh at the situation. The above picture, a mock-up of Taarabt at an eating contest, does just that. Here are the best fan reactions to the rant on Twitter!
Taarabt's behaviour makes me sick. Does he know how lucky he is to be a pro footballer? I hope something happens to make him realise #QPR— Michael (@MichaelHi92) October 20, 2014
re Redknapp again complaining about Adel Taarabt overweight & not training: what exactly are you or anyone doing about that Harry? #QPR— Kris Griffiths (@KrisGriffiths) October 20, 2014
Taarabt debate is dull. There's those who think he's God's gift & those who'd happily pay for his travel to new club. No middle ground. #QPR— Chris (@Faurlin_) October 20, 2014
Didn't Redknapp put on Taarabt as a sub a couple of weeks ago at Upton Park??? I'm confused #QPR— Daniel Banks (@whubestman) October 20, 2014
More than meets the eye with this Taarabt thing. And before anyone says anything this isn't me defending him. Feel like throttling him #QPR— Steve Heard (@steveheard82) October 20, 2014
