Manchester United latest: Huge injury boost as star tipped for bench tonight

Michael Carrick has reportedly been included in Manchester United’s match-day squad for their game against West Bromwich Albion this evening.

The England international is yet to appear since Louis van Gaal took charge in the summer, but the Daily Mail claims the midfielder is ready and could be on the bench at the Hawthorns this evening.

If true, it would be a huge boost for the United boss, who is said to rate Carrick extremely highly.

In other news, a United youth XI will take on Loughborough University in a friendly on Tuesday evening.

The club’s official website reports that United will return after a previous game in 2012 which they won 6-2.

That side featured a young Paddy McNair, and coach Paul McGuiness said, “I promised to go back and we’re glad to go back.

“We might use some of Warren Joyce’s players who are not getting a game with the under-21s so it’s likely to be a mix of under-18s and under-19s.”
