News of a major injury boost for Manchester United

Ander Herrera has reportedly told Louis van Gaal he can play against West Brom on Monday night.

Ander Herrera has told Louis van Gaal he can play against West Brom on Monday night, according to the Daily Mail.

Manchester United travel to the Midlands to face Alan Irvine's side on Monday, sitting in fourth place in the Premier League after seven games.

United had started the season slowly but three wins in their last four have rocketed them up the table.

Herrera, however, broke a rib three weeks ago during his side's 2-1 win over West Ham United. And the Spaniard was initially expected to miss six weeks with the injury.

But the midfielder, who moved to Old Trafford this summer, has made 'rapid progress' and has reportedly told Van Gaal he can travel to the Hawthorns if he is given a painkilling injection.

The news provides a major boost for Man United and gives Van Gaal another option against the Baggies.

West Brom had previously won three games in a row in all competitions - two of them in the Premier League - although a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield ended that winning run.
