In an interview with Portuguese newspaper Record, Jesus was asked who the one player was that he wished had not left the club and, unsurprisingly, he picked a player who is proving to be worth every penny of the £59.7million United paid Real Madrid for his services.
There have been plenty of quality players to leave the Portuguese champions in recent years, including Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, former Blue David Luiz and Liverpool’s Lazar Markovic. But Jesus had another player in mind.
“For his technical characteristics, his speed, the fact that he is spectacular in his day-to-day work, maybe it’s unfair but I’ll say Di Maria," Jesus said.
The Argentina international left Portugal for Real in 2010, having made 117 players for Benfica, scoring 15 goals and providing 27 assists in the process.
And as United fans will no doubt testify, he is a player of such talent that it must have been a huge disappointment on Jesus’s part when he waved him goodbye.
