Tottenham could miss out on international striker, Atletico prepare €11m bid - report

Sampdoria striker Manolo Gabbiadini has attracted interest from Tottenham of late, but reports suggest that Atletico Madrid are preparing an €11m bid.

Tottenham Hotspur have made a strong start to life under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, claiming three wins and two draws from the opening seven games of the season to sit in sixth place of the Premier League table.

Despite the decent results, Spurs' big problem over recent seasons still remains; the strikers aren't contributing enough. Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado have combined for just one Premier League goal this season, meaning Argentine boss Pochettino could look to sign a new centre forward in January.

The likes of Jackson Martinez (Porto) and Paco Alcacer (Valencia) have already been linked with moves in the New Year, but the last week has seen Italian international Manolo Gabbiadini suggested as a target after a strong start to the Serie A season with Sampdoria, scoring three goals in four games.

However, his early season exploits with Sampdoria have attracted a host other clubs as well, and Spanish reports suggest that Atletico Madrid are looking to add Gabbiadini to their squad in January for €11m.

Diego Simeone's men added attacking talent in the summer with Antoine Griezmann, Alessio Cerci, Mario Mandzukic and Raul Jimenez, but adding another Italian alongside Cerci could be a wise move - especially if the 22-year-old continues his recent goalscoring form.

Tottenham will surely be looking for strikers after the ineffectual displays of Adebayor and Soldado, but they mat need to move quickly if they want to steal Gabbiadini from under the noses of Atletico.
