Spanish paper claims Odegaard 'wants' a move to Barcelona

Sport claims Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United linked Martin Odegaard wants a move to Barcelona.

Pro-Barcelona newspaper Sport claims 15-year-old sensation Martin Odegaard wants a move to Barcelona.

In a report detailing how Odegaard has been invited to Barca with his father, Sport leads in with a headline of ‘Martin Odegaard, the ‘child prodigy’ Norwegian who wants Barcelona’.

The teen has been linked with plenty of different top European sides with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United among the interested parties in the Premier League.

However, if Sport’s implication is accurate then the English sides could struggle to convince him that they are a better proposition than the Nou Camp side.

Barca’s invitation to Odegaard is hardly surprising because no team is in a position yet where they can offer him a contract or negotiate with Stromsgodset, his current club, over his transfer because of his age.

Therefore, it can hardly be surprising that Barca appear to be trying to give themselves an edge in the race to get him by showing off the facilities and the potential of what he could enjoy in Spain.

Where the English sides mentioned with an interest can cash in is in terms of giving him more guarantee of a chance.

For example, Louis van Gaal at Manchester United has already used youth team players in his first team this season.

The important thing to remember here is his age and the English sides mentioned are also arguably more effective in terms of protecting their young players from exposure and pressure.

When Odegaard does move, it’s going to be a high profile and well publicised transfer and he needs to know that the club he’s joining will take care of him.

Barca appear to be landing the first unofficial blow and it will be interesting to see how they Premier League big boys react.
