Manchester United latest: Carvalho praises Falcao, Fergie retirement crucial to Ronaldo return?

The latest Manchester United transfer news, views and rumours.

Radamel Falcao

Monaco defender Ricardo Carvalho believes it is only a matter of time before Radamel Falcao rediscovers his clinical goalscoring form at Manchester United.

The Colombian joined United on a loan move from the French side on Deadline Day, though reports suggest he could be nearing a permanent deal soon.

And Carvalho says Falcao's 'dangerous' ability in the box will soon be reaping rewards at Old Trafford.

"He doesn't need too much time. He's a striker that smells the goal and is dangerous in the box. Always when he gets the opportunity to score, he will score," Carvalho is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

"The Premier League is a tough league to play in but I think he'll do well and score there.

"He has that thing with him when he gets a half chance he will score. He's a great striker and a great professional."

Cristiano Ronaldo

There is less encouraging news from Spain, however, with the London Evening Standard reporting that Man United are feeling less and less confident about the possibility of re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to the newspaper, United fear they may have been used as a pawn in order for Ronaldo to secure a mega-money new deal at Real Madrid.

And the report also cites the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson as crucial to any potential return - but not in a good way.

Indeed, the Scot's retirement is said to have gone some way to dissuading Ronaldo that a move back to Manchester would be beneficial to his career.
