Head-to-head: Colback vs Livermore - who will win the midfield battle?

St James Park Two

Newcastle host Hull on Saturday and a key battle in the middle of the park could go a long way to deciding the outcome of the game.

Alan Pardew's Newcastle side have yet to win a game this season, and they will be looking to wrap up a victory on Saturday against the visiting Tigers.

Hull have picked up five points in four games, and have found the net in each of their games so far, but a key clash in midfield could have a major influence on which side comes out on top.

Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback has impressed since making the switch from Sunderland this summer and he will face up against Jake Livermore this Saturday, in what looks set to be an intriguing battle.

The former Spurs man made his switch to Hull permanent this summer following a successful loan spell during the last campaign, and he will hope to help the Tigers to their second away win of the season this weekend.

Colback has earnt an England call-up as a result of his early season performances, but the Magpies are desperate for a win, and they will expect to earn all three points on Saturday.

Both midfielders have played every minute of the new season so far, and are expected to start in Saturday's clash.

Colback has been more of an attacking threat so far, as he has created more chances, and has also made more accurate passes per game.

Though Livermore has been more effective defensively, as the 24-year-old has won more tackles per appearance and has also been more dominant in the air.

The midfield battle between the two should be interesting to watch on Saturday, as both play with plenty of passion and aggression in the centre of midfield, but whoever comes out on top should help their side to victory in what looks set to be a tight encounter.
