Mama’s Andrés Muschietti enlisted to helm the movie adaptation of the PlayStation 2 classic

Sony has announced Andrés Muschietti will be taking over directorial duties on the Shadow Of The Colossus movie, giving newfound certainty to the film which has been in the works since 2009.

Muschietti, who broke through with the horror film Mama, replaces Chronicles director Josh Trank, who is currently working on the latest Fantastic Four movie before moving on to a standalone Star Wars spin-off. Muschietti is also to supervise the screenplay being written by Seth Lockhead, who previously penned the action thriller Hanna.

A press release from Sony pictures, Muschietti is said to be a fan of the game who “has a strong vision for the film and its characters, and seeks to translate the immersive game experience into a film that stays true to the human story of a young man attempting to save his lost love by accomplishing a seemingly impossible task … the destruction of the colossi who roam the forbidden land.”

Sony’s next major film project is the Uncharted movie, currently slated to land in 2016. We’re hopeful the Shadow Of The Colossus big screen debut isn’t too far behind.
