We bring you the latest news from Newcastle United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

Faustino Asprilla wants Newcastle return

Faustino Asprilla has said that he would return to Newcastle United if offered the chance.

The Colombian forward is a cult hero at St. James’ Park and he says if given an opportunity to become a striking coach on Tyneside he would take it.

“If the opportunity was there for me to work with the club again it would be magnificent,” he said to the Chronicle. “It would be a dream come true."

“I want to work in football because I love it but it would be even more special to do it at Newcastle.”

De Jong hoping to add goals

Newcastle United’s summer signing Siem De Jong says that he is hoping to add goals to the Magpies side.

De Jong missed the start of the season through injury, but after a bit of match practice in recent times he says that he is up to speed and feels that he wants to make more of an impact now.

“I feel good – I’ve trained hard,” De Jong said. “I’m glad to be playing, and hopefully I can improve my game here."

“Everybody wants to score – especially the attacking players.”

Santiago Vergini earns Poyet praise

Santiago Vergini has been praised after making a good return to Sunderland this summer.

After an impressive loan spell last season, Vergini was recruited on a permanent basis during this transfer window and Poyet says that he has settled in straight away.

“It’s like he’s never left,” Poyet revealed. “He’s a happy boy and everything is good for him because he’s a good lad."

“The players know him very well now too, and know what they’re going to get.”

Connor Wickham’s future top Sunderland priority

Sorting the future of Connor Wickham has become Sunderland’s main priority after the transfer window has closed.

Wickham has under 12 months remaining on his contract and the Black Cats are now hoping to offer him a new deal to get him to commit his future.

The powerful forward had been linked with a move away to Leicester City and Newcastle United over the summer, but Poyet is determined to keep hold of his star striker.

Yanic Wildschut wants Premier League football

New Middlesbrough signing Yanic Wildschut is hoping to guide the club to the Premier League.

The Dutch winger joined over the summer and he already has high ambitions at his new club.

“I want to show the Championship what I’ve got and hopefully the club can be in the Premier League and I want to be there to help in the process,” he said.
