According to a new report in Portugal Joel Campbell has asked to leave Arsenal.

Arsenal forward Joel Campbell has reportedly told Arsene Wenger that he wants to leave the Gunners in pursuit of regular first-team football.

That is the claim of Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, who follow up on yesterday’s report that talks over a potential move to Benfica continue.

The latest story suggests that Campbell has “urged Wenger” to allow him to leave, and while Benfica are said to be willing to spend €10million to bring the Costa Rica international to Lisbon, the fresh report does not intimate whether Campbell wants to leave permanently or on loan.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an outstanding temporary spell in Greece and many expected him to challenge for a first-team spot at the Emirates this campaign, especially when you consider just how many games Arsenal look set to play.

But the rumours persist that Campbell could be on his way, with claims he is seeking the regular football that he is unlikely to get – at least in the short-term – if he remains in North London.
