Jose Mourinho may maintain a positive relationship with his former defender but that’s as far as it goes because there are plenty of reasons as to why this deal is unlikely to happen.
Firstly, Chelsea don’t have a direct need for him in their first team squad.
On the right hand side the full-back coverage is provided by Branislav Ivanovic and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Ivanovic appears to have been converted into a right-back by Jose Mourinho while Azpilicueta is arguably the most consistent and versatile defender in the team’s back four.
On the left hand side, left-back Filipe Luis is yet to feature from the start in a Premier League game.
That’s because Azpilicueta has been used extensively down the left hand side and is currently keeping the Brazilian out of the team.
Secondly, Spanish website Marca has reported today that Arbeloa is happy to stay at Real Madrid.
The pro-Real Madrid news source claims that the full-back will stay at Los Blancos for at least another season as he tries to reclaim his position in the side.
Needless to say that should Arbeloa complete that aim of becoming one of Real Madrid’s most important defenders again, it makes the suggestion that he could be open to moving away far less plausible.
He’s being kept out of the Real Madrid team and even if he secured a move to Chelsea, he’d be kept out of the team because there is nothing wrong with the way Mourinho is using his current full-backs.
Rubbish Rating: While he would be a superb signing for Chelsea, they simply don’t need him and he doesn’t seem to be ready to turn his back on Real Madrid contrary to several reports.
