Microsoft’s Gamescom lineup: New games, console bundles, and betas

Xbox One System

This week at Gamescom Microsoft have teased us with new reveals, new bundles, and new game footage, to keep us wanting more.

Xbox dropped some big news this week during their time at Gamescom in Germany, and we’ve rounded up some of the biggest and best for you below.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

More news about the sequel to 2013’s Tomb Raider was revealed, with Xbox announcing that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be ‘exclusive to Xbox’ when it launches at the end of 2015. Unsurprisingly many fans that own other platforms were upset, however during an interview with Xbox boss Phil Spencer, he revealed the game ‘has a duration’ on Xbox. In other words, it’s a timed exclusive.

Halo 5 beta

The Halo 5: Guardians beta kicks off on 29th December 2014, for three weeks, for those who’re buying Halo The Master Chief Collection. The beta will be focussed on 4 vs 4 arena gameplay and will allow players to use the new character customisation options in Halo 5. The Halo channel was also announced which will unlock things in the beta that you can take forward into Halo 5 when it’s released.

The Evolve beta

The Evolve beta begins exclusively on Xbox One in January 2015. A gameplay demo on the Distillery map was shown during Gamescom, which highlights the Kraken monster.

SMITE is a popular MOBA on PC, and it was announced the game is coming to Xbox One in 2015 via the self-publishing ID@Xbox program. Unlike other MOBAs, the game is third person, and will probably translate well onto console.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle

An exclusive Xbox One CoD: Advanced Warfare bundle was announced this week, which throws together a custom designed controller and console with 1TB of storage, along with the Day Zero edition of the game.

Sunset Overdrive bundle and trailer

The white Xbox One console was previously only available to Xbox employees, but now players can own it by buying the Sunset Overdrive Xbox One bundle. The bundle includes a custom white Xbox One and controller, along with a digital copy of the game and exclusive in-game items.

FIFA 15 bundle

A third bundle announcement in the form of FIFA 15, exclusive to Europe. No fancy custom Xbox console or controller here, but it does come with a digital copy of FIFA 15 with the Ultimate Team Legends Gold Pack.

ScreamRide reveal

A ‘full-featured, physics-based coaster game’, ScreamRide let’s players build rollercoasters and environments, then ride the coasters and destroy everything – it actually looks fun. But I feel a little sorry for the people on the rides...

Quantum Break gameplay reveal

Remedy’s time-manipulation third person shooter was shown off, with the first glimpse at the gameplay. It certainly showcased what we expect a next gen game to look like.

ID@Xbox indie game montage

Xbox are still dedicated to bringing more indie titles to their system, and the montage video they showed at Gamescom highlights some great games that are on their way as exclusives to Xbox first.

What have we learned from Xbox at Gamescom this year? We’ve learnt that the big games still aren’t here, but they’re on their way. Indie titles are also on their way, but we still have to wait for them. And that they love a good ol’ game and console bundle. Either way it looks like the future is bright for Xbox One, but we just have to be patient, OK?
