Nicklas Bendtner will go down in Arsenal’s history as one of their major disappointments.
Much was expected of the Denmark international, who joined the Gunners as a teenager back in 2004, but he failed to deliver.
Although manager Arsene Wenger maintained his faith in the striker on more occasions than fans would have liked, this summer he was finally let go.
The 26-year-old’s contract with Arsenal ran out at the end of last season and was not renewed, with the striker joining German club VfL Wolfsburg on a free transfer on a three-year contract this week.
During his time in North London, Bendtner was well known for his off-pitch activities, which often hit the headlines than his goalscoring prowess.
The former Arsenal striker, who played on loan for Birmingham City, Juventus and Sunderland during his spell at the Emirates Stadium, was involved in an unsavoury incident in his native Denmark in March (click here to read more).
Bendtner has also been arrested for drink-driving in his homeland in the past and was cautioned by police in Hertfordshire last November.
Mesut Ozil may have played alongside Bendtner for just one season at Arsenal, having joined the 13-time English champions from Real Madrid last summer for a club-record transfer fee of £42.5 million, but the Germany international midfielder appears to be well aware of the Dane’s off-pitch activities.
On Friday, the 25-year-old 2014 World Cup winner took to social networking site Twitter to post the following message:
Whether Bendtner will 'behaves’ in Germany is anybody’s guess, but what will be interesting to see is how he settles into the team at Wolfsburg.
Dieter Hecking’s side finished fifth in the Bundesliga last season and will be gunning for a top-four finish this term, and Bendtner will have to step up his game to lead their line.
