Transfer expert: Tottenham and Roma re-enter Destro talks

Italian transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà believes that Tottenham have contacted Roma to try and restart negotiations for striker Mattia Destro.

It was suggested earlier today that Roma would sell off striker Mattia Destro in order to keep Mehdi Benatia and now it seems Tottenham may be lurking once more.

Tottenham were linked to Destro before, but rumours suggested that Roma were unresponsive to the idea of selling the highly-rated marksman.

But after a summer of intense transfer activity, Roma are said to be short of cash and may need to sell off a key player before the season starts.

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini will do anything in his power to keep hold of defender Benatia, who is said to be the subject of a £30 million bid from Chelsea, and Destro could be the sacrificial lamb.

There were reports that Roma have already contacted Manchester City to ask about the possibility of a loan deal for Stevan Jovetic, who could replace Destro.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Tottenham have called Roma and want to discuss Destro.

However, Spurs may be put off by Roma's valuation, especially since there are reports that German side Wolfsburg are ready to pay £19 million.

Pedullà has stressed that at this stage talks are in their infancy, but Tottenham may be keen to make a big signing before the window closes and Roma appear to be much more willing to consider Destro leaving than they were in the past.
