Roma could trade Destro in and get Jovetic to keep Benatia

Roma may be in for a busy end to the transfer window and could try and pull off a series of deals to prevent the sale of defender Mehdi Benatia.

Having spent heavily this summer, Roma may need to sacrifice a star player but they could avoid losing Mehdi Benatia with a striking switch.

Despite denials from player's agent and Jose Mourinho, the Italian press insist that Roma are weighing up a £30 million bid from Chelsea for Benatia.

But last season's Serie A runners-up are reticent to let Benatia leave and could try and keep him by allowing striker Mattia Destro to move on.

Destro has been linked with Tottenham but Il Messaggero believes that German side Wolfsburg are ready to offer £19 million.

Roma's sporting director Walter Sabatini is said to have opened talks with the agent of Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic as a possible replacement.

The Montenegrin international would arrive on loan, representing a significant profit for the Giallorossi, which would allow them to reject a bumper offer for Benatia.

However, Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini seems keen to keep Jovetic and the player has stated his desire to fight for a place at the club. Roma may also find competition from Serie A rivals Juventus and Inter.
