The Astronauts’ ‘weird fiction’ adventure has been confirmed to be getting a PS4 port
Following talk in May from Ethan Carter’s creator, Adrian Chmielarz.regarding a console version, Sony have managed to coax the game over to PS4. Previously Ethan Carter was set to land on PC only, so far this marks the game as a PS4 console exclusive
In Ethan Carter you assume the role of a detective endowed with the supernatural ability to visualise the circumstances of people’s deaths.
“The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a story-driven mystery game that focuses entirely on exploration and discovery, featuring no combat or explosions of any kind,” said Chmielarz announcing the PS4 port
“If our game leaves any scars, you won’t be able to see them.”
He continued, “The game is played through first-person perspective, whereby you explore and interact with the world in order to discover the truth behind Ethan’s disappearance. You conduct the investigation on your own terms and at your own pace. Although we did put a few scary bits in the game, there is no need for sedatives. It’s less about pure terror and more about, as our writers put it, ‘clammy unease’.
“While it features a private detective and quite a few mental challenges, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is not a puzzle-ridden game. Our focus is on atmosphere, mood, and the essential humanity of our characters.”
The game uses a technique called photogrammetry where photographs have been used to provide the environments in the game. A trailer released earlier this year shows the impressively detailed game world in situ.
Below is the latest PS4 announcement trailer for Ethan Carter giving a look at some of the gameplay.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is due to launch for PC on September 26th. The game’s official website states a PS4 version is to follow sometime next year.
