Report: Serie A sides eye Swansea swoop

Three Italian clubs are rumoured to be preparing to table bids for Swansea City midfielder Josè Canas.

Swansea City's defensive midfielder Josè Canas could be headed for Italy if reports there are to be believed.

The 27-year-old is said to appeal to a trio of Serie A clubs who believe they can snap him up at a low price.

Canas joined Swansea in August last year after refusing to renew his contract at Spanish side Real Betis, where he had spent the rest of his career, working his way up from their C team.

After 23 appearances for the Welsh club, Canas is reportedly ready to find a fresh challenge and Serie A may appeal to him.

According to the latest reports in Italy, Atalanta, Sassuolo and Chievo are all keen on Canas and weighing up the possibility of bidding.

Bergamo-based club Atalanta are the biggest of the three and finished 11th last season, threatening to break into the European qualification zone before faltering in the latter stages.

It’s no surprise that the Premier League’s best when it comes to interceptions this season are all defensively minded players, who attempt to get rid of problems before they have translated into goalscoring opportunities against their teams.

Interestingly only two of the smartest players in the Premier League this season feature for sides in the Premier League’s top four as things stand, which is a tribute to the players in sides that haven’t made as impressive starts to the campaign.

Here are the five players with the highest average Chievo and Sassuolo are minnows who will be looking simply to stay afloat this term. Sassuolo succeeded in staying up in their maiden top-flight campaign last year while tiny Veronese club Chievo are constantly tipped to go down but have established themselves amongst the elite.

However, Canas may prefer a return to Spain and Elche and Celta Vigo are known to be interested in his signature.
