On this day: Cavani slams Liverpool boss; Arsenal 'agreed' £14m Gustavo fee

On the 10th August 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Liverpool and Arsenal.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 10th August 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 10th August 2013…

Cavani slams Rodgers

This summer Liverpool sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona, and for that reason they have found themselves linked to several big name strikers across Europe. One such player is Edinson Cavani. Just last week his agent confirmed Liverpool were keen on his services.

Interesting that, when you consider what Cavani said about Brendan Rodgers a year ago today.

The Liverpool boss had claimed earlier that week that Suarez lacked respect for the way he was trying to engineer a move to Arsenal a year ago. But Cavani leapt to the defence of his countryman and friend, stating:

The Liverpool coach can talk about loyalty and disrespect, but maybe he needs to look up what it means.

“Luis had the chance last year to join a big club like Juventus, who went on to win the league in Italy. But, instead, he chose to stay and fight with Liverpool. Now, that’s what you call loyalty. I’ve known about his agreement with Liverpool and understood that he would be leaving, if they were not playing in the Champions League.”

Wenger gets Gus

Arsenal reportedly agreed a deal to sign Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich. The Brazilian holding midfielder wanted to depart Bayern for regular first-team football.

It was reported that The Gunners had agreed a £14 million fee with the Bundesliga champions for the services of Gustavo - who could not get a game at the Allianz Arena.

Of course Gustavo performed a U-turn on his apparent Premier League desire - deciding he wanted to remain in Germany by signing for VfL Wolfsburg just six days later.
