Midlands latest: Villa transfer-list seven; Leicester to move again for striker

We bring you the latest news from Aston Villa, Stoke City, Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest

1) Aston Villa have put seven players up for sale

Aston Villa have put seven players up for sale as they look to bring in some money to fund new signings ahead of the new season.

Alan Hutton, Yacouba Sylla, Chris Herd, Enda Stevens, Aleksandar Tonev, Antonio Luna and Joe Bennett have all been put on the transfer-list, with Paul Lambert not considering them part of his future plans.

Of the aforementioned seven players, Alan Hutton appears closest to a departure from Villa Park at the moment – with a move to West Bromwich Albion looking likely if he can agree personal terms.

2) Leicester City refuse to give up on pursuit of Leonardo Ulloa

Leicester City are still tracking a deal which could see Brighton and Hove Albion front-man Leonardo Ulloa join the club.

The Foxes gave been chasing the striker for the entirety of the transfer-window so far, but have seen all their efforts blocked by Brighton’s desire to keep their star-man.

Ulloa has already asked for a move away after hearing of Leicester’s interest, but the Seagulls are determined to keep the Argentine on the South-Coast and have rejected his demands to date.

Nigel Pearson is not giving up, though, and is expected to make another offer for the target-man in the near future.

3) Wilson Palacios to move to Qatar

Wilson Palacios looks set to leave Stoke City this summer, with the club hoping to sell him to Qatar SC.

Palacios has endured a miserable time at the Britannia Stadium to date, failing to find his top form, and Stoke are happy to allow him to move on.

They are seeking a small fee, but look set to make a big loss on the 29-year-old, who they paid £6million to sign from Tottenham three years ago.

4) Kenny Jackett backs Richard Stearman to shine

Kenny Jackett has said that Richard Stearman will be a crucial component in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Championship campaign next season.

Stearman was a regular in Wolves’ first-team last season and they demolished League One and he is hoping that the experienced centre-back can continue to star at a higher level.

“He’s been one of the ones who have been able to make that transition through different regimes and at 27 I’m looking for him now to be a really good senior pro,” Jackett said to the club’s official site.

“He is coming into his best years - he has a lot of experience now and I’m looking for him to lead.”

5) Djamel Abdoun set to leave the City Ground

Stuart Pearce has said that Djamel Abdoun does not feature in his first-team plans and is free to leave Nottingham Forest this summer.

Abdoun made 22 appearances in a Forest shirt last season, but found his chances limited towards the back-end of the campaign and also found his attitude come under question.

The winger will continue to train with the club over the course of pre-season, but Pearce expects him to be plying his trade somewhere else before the season kicks off.
