Daiwa Capital Markets has appointed a new Head of Investment Banking for Europe and the Middle East.
Daiwa Capital Markets, the international investment banking arm of Japan’s Daiwa Securities Group, has appointed Christopher Brown as its new Head of Investment Banking for Europe and the Middle East.
Brown, Managing Director and previously Head of the firm’s Fixed Income Division, has held increasingly senior roles at Daiwa for the past 13 years, working in both London and Singapore where he successfully oversaw the growth of Daiwa Capital Markets Europe’s Asian Fixed Income product.
The appointment is part of Daiwa’s strategy to consolidate its primary market position and the Debt Syndication Department, also headed by Brown, will move from Fixed Income to the Investment Banking Division.
The Investment Banking Division also includes the firm’s Debt Capital Markets (DCM) business as well as Equity Capital Markets (ECM). Last financial year the firm reported a record number of both USD benchmark and JPY benchmark deals in the primary debt markets, as well as an impressive number of new equity related transactions.
DCM continues to be headed by Vince Purton, Managing Director and a 30 year veteran of Daiwa, and ECM continues to be headed by Yoshihiko Kiji, who joined Daiwa in 1995.
Investment Banking was previously headed by Mr Hiroki Ikeda, who became Chief Operating Officer of Daiwa Capital Markets Europe in April.
“Daiwa continues to be a leading player in the Samurai bond market, a major force in non-core currency underwriting and has been responsible for some of the most notable deals in the USD benchmark space during recent years,” notes Keith Meekins, CEO of Daiwa Capital Markets Europe. “I wish Christopher every success in his new role that will see us consolidate our primary market position.”
Antony Baldwin, currently Managing Director and Deputy Head of Fixed Income, replaces Brown as Joint Head of Fixed Income, along with Tatsuji Nagano.
Baldwin joined Daiwa’s London office in 1994 and, amongst other roles, has headed the firm’s funding and repo businesses. His recent focus for the firm has been on risk management and developing Daiwa’s E-trading capability. He sits on the European Repo Council (ERC) and is the ERC’s representative on the Bank of England’s Securities Lending and Repo Committee.
Mr Nagano joins Daiwa’s London office from Daiwa Securities in Tokyo, where he is currently Head of International Fixed Income Sales. Before joining Daiwa in 2011 he held senior positions at JP Morgan and Merrill Lynch’s Tokyo-based Credit Sales businesses. He started his career at Tokyo Mitsubishi.
