Pre-season at Liverpool will begin this month and midfielder Lucas Leiva is delighted to be back in the city.
The 27-year-old midfielder has been on holiday for the past few weeks, but he is now back, as on Sunday, he posted the following picture on Instagram with the message: ‘A caminho de Liverpool/ On my way to Liverpool’.
Lucas struggled with injuries last season and despite returning to action before the end of the 2013-14 campaign, he failed to secure a place in Brazil’s 23-man World Cup squad.
The former Gremio star took a trip to New York with his family during the summer and now seems to be relishing his return to Liverpool.
However, the Brazil international’s future at Anfield has been cast into doubt, as there are suggestions that he is past his best and is surplus to requirements.
Napoli are reportedly interested in signing the veteran midfielder on loan for the 2014-15 season, with the Italian club’s coach Rafael Benitez eager to be reunited with the player he signed for Liverpool back in 2007.
Lucas will face tough competition for places at Liverpool in the upcoming campaign, but a good pre-season following no football over the past few weeks could see him convince Reds manager Brendan Rodgers to make him a key part of his team.
