Arsenal and Chelsea stars have Tweeted in support of Barcelona superstar Neymar Jr after news spread that the Brazilian striker has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup with a broken vertebra in his back.
The incident happened at the end of Brazil’s 2-1 victory over Colombia as defender Juan Zuniga's knee landed in Neymar’s lower back, forcing the 22-year-old to leave the field on a stretcher in tears.
Team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar broke the news to the nation in an interview with the press after the match.
“It's not serious in the sense that it doesn't need surgery, but he'll need to immobilise it to recover,” he said in quotes published by The Daily Mail. “Unfortunately, he's not going to be able to play.”
'”The exact time (to play again) can be four to six weeks, but it is too early to confirm this. Let's wait for other tests. This is the first diagnosis we had. Initially, we know he will not be able to play.”
Following the news, Arsenal’s German contingent and Chelsea’s Willian took to Twitter to show their support for the unfortunate striker.
Neymar, i am unhappy. get well soon.— Mesut Özil (@MesutOzil1088) julio 5, 2014
With Neymar ruled out through injury and Thiago Silva missing through suspension, Brazil’s semi-final clash against Germany is starting to look a daunting proposition.
The match is to take place on July 8 in Belo Horizonte, and while the Gunners’ duo Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil lament Neymar’s unfortunate absence, both will know that the Germans’ chances of reaching the World Cup final have now been strongly enhanced.
