On this day: Cavani wants Chelsea move and Ronaldo misses United

Stories about Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all feature.

The last couple of days have provided fans with the chance to reflect on a dramatic World Cup so far and take in the latest transfer rumours to affect the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

The quarter-finals in Brazil are fast approaching with some very good teams still in the competition. There are some great match-ups in the last eight but exits could see various transfers start to gather pace with pre-season now just around the corner.

We’ve taken a look at this day last year to see which stories were making the headlines.

‘Cavani tells friends he wants Chelsea move’

The Express ran a round up of the latest transfer stories, suggesting that Napoli striker Edinson Cavani wanted to move to Chelsea.

The paper made the claim that the Uruguayan striker had told close friends of his intentions to move to West London.

However, the Blues never did a deal, with PSG eventually signing him, as they won the Ligue One title last season.

‘Ronaldo admits he misses United’

Former Manchester United attacker and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo admitted that he missed Old Trafford.

The Portuguese forward left the club in an £80 million deal when he joined Los Blancos but has always maintained that United are close to him personally.

“For me it was one of the best years in my career when I was there at Manchester United. Everyone knows that. It is the club that is still in my heart. I really miss (the club)” he was quoted by the Independent.

‘Mannone leaves Arsenal’

Goalkeeper Victor Mannone left the club to go and sign a deal with Premier League rivals Sunderland.

Mannone was part of a goalkeeping trio, behind Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

He spent eight years with Arsenal making only 23 appearances.
