On this day: Thiago 'agrees terms' with United; £300m Chelsea deal

On the 21st June 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 21st June 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 21st June 2013…

Santi season

A year ago today and Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla was talking about the upcoming season. The Spaniard, who was the club's player of the season in the previous campaign, was hoping to battle for the title.

'When the team doesn't win and we don't get the results we want, the collective confidence does drop a little and that is natural. Now we have put in a spectacular run-in and you can see the difference in mentality. We have great players. I am sure next season we will be a better team and improve. Next season we hope we can be even better and win trophies and the supporters can enjoy it, that is what Arsenal really wants."

A year on and now he is being linked with an exit. He is said to want a move away from the club with Atletico Madrid lurking. Time will tell if he sticks at The Emirates.

adidas riches

Chelsea agreed a new kit deal with adidas which was reportedly the biggest kit deal in Premier League history. The deal was the second largest in the world, and overtook Arsenal's recent new deal with Puma. It was reportedly worth £30 million-a-year for 10 years.

Thia-going to United

Manchester United had 'agreed terms' with Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The Spaniard was all set to leave the Catalan side after a lack of regular first-team football at the Nou Camp.

However these reports proved to be very much premature. In the end the deal never happened, instead he went to Bayern Munich and was just one of many big transfer targets to evade the club last summer.
