First look at Tetris Ultimate on the PS4 and Xbox One

30 years on Ubisoft are bringing a next gen Tetris remake.

Gaming nostalgia is very much alive this year. We’ve heard about Gauntlet and Oddworld getting reboots in 2014, not to mention the latest-gen outings of Wolfenstein and Mario Kart. Now joining the list comes Tetris the world storming, super-addicting 1980s puzzle game that to date stands as the highest selling cross-platform game ever.

Ubisoft, after getting their hands on the Tetris licence in January, have revealed the first details of the new Tetris ports for PC, Xbox One and PS4 set to land this year. The console versions will be available to download in the Summer to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the legendary blocky puzzler. A PC version will follow in the Autumn

Entitled Tetris Ultimate, Ubisoft heralded the game saying,

“The world’s most-loved puzzle game arrives on next-gen consoles, and is better than ever in Tetris Ultimate. With six exciting modes, fun new features, and unique visuals, the evolution of this iconic game is the ultimate must-have on next-gen consoles.”

The new modes in question will be: Marathon, a points race up to level 15, Endless, Ultra, a three minute high score challenge, Sprint, a race to clear 40 lines in the fastest time, Battle and Power Up Battle, which will have you stitching up your opponents with a number of nasty power ups including Let it Rain which dumps garbage down on your opponents Well.

Tetris Ultimate will support multiplayer for up to 4 people. will have a Social Feeds function to keep up with your friends’ Tetris triumphs and a capture feature that Ubisoft are saying, “captures and saves your play style, allowing you to always be able to play with or against your friends, even when they are offline. If your scores get beat, view your friends’ strategies via their in-game replays, then challenge and beat them!”
