West Ham target Obinna may choose Chievo stay

West Ham United have been linked with bringing striker Victor Obinna back to the club, but reports suggest he's happier with Chievo.

There were reports a few weeks ago that suggested Nigerian marksman Victor Obinna was headed back to West Ham, but that now looks less likely.

The 27-year-old wore the West Ham shirt for the 2010-11 campaign when he arrived on a season loan from Inter.

Obinna generally acquitted himself well and provided a memorable four assists in a 4-0 League Cup win over Manchester United in November 2010.

However, West Ham opted not to try and make the deal permanent and Obinna signed for Lokomotiv Moscow.

Having failed to settle in Russia, Obinna ended last season on loan to former club Chievo and it now seems that he may be staying there.

According to ll Corriere di Verona, Obinna has dealt with his disappointment at being cut from Nigeria's World Cup squad due to fitness problems by insisting that he stays with Chievo.

The talented forward will have to return to Moscow but it is believed that he intends for that period to be as brief as possible.

Obinna managed the unusual feat of providing four assists in a 4-0 League Cup win over Manchester City and scored a hat-trick in a 3-2 FA Cup fourth round win over Nottingham Forest.

But the Hammers didn't exercise the option to sign Obinna permanently in the summer of 2011 and he ended up signing for Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow.

The talented forward has spent the second half of the season at Chievo on loan and was greeted very warmly by fans at the Stadio Bentegodi.

But a longer term solution needs to be found and that could be where West Ham step in.
