'I have to grow up' - Midfielder linked to Manchester United a year ago admits shortcomings

Inter Milan's Saphir Taider did not enjoy a good season last year.

A year ago Bologna midfielder Saphir Taider was a midfielder in demand.

While his agent revealed Manchester United were interested, Inter Milan were also contesting his signature.

It was the Nerazzuri who won out, paying just £5 million for the 22-year-old, but the season has not been a big success.

He made 13 starts, and completed 90 minutes only three times in Serie A, used 12 times from the bench. A return of one goal and one assist also gave him little to shout about.

The midfielder knows however that improvements need to be made, and believes his future still belongs with Inter Milan.

He is quoted by Tuttomercato saying: "Inter is one of the biggest clubs in the world, I'm young, I have to grow up, but I have the confidence of the club. Certainly, there were times (when it was) harder than others, but I am a professional and I have to have confidence."

Taider will hope to pick up that confidence at the World Cup, where he has been selected as part of the Algeria squad.

They are in a competitive Group H with Belgium, Russia and South Korea and hope to spring a surprise or two.

Despite United's claimed interest a year ago, and their need for midfield recruits, it is not thought Taider is on their radar, but a strong World Cup and shaky situation with him a bit-part player could yet see that change.
