Leicester City showing interest in 24-goal French striker

Leicester City are looking for reinforcements for next season's assault on the Premier League and Andy Delort of Tours could be just the striker they need.

French Newspaper La Nouvelle Republique have linked Premier League new boys Leicester City with a move for Tours FC striker Andy Delort. The forward is only 22 years old but has made a bit of a splash in Ligue 2 this season by scoring 24 goals in 36 games. High-scoring Tours finished eighth in the table, but only promoted Caen scored more goals than Delort’s side.

Tours is Delort’s fourth club, which makes it so surprising that he has exploded onto the scene this season. After he failed to make a significant impact at Corsican side AC Ajaccio he moved to Metz on loan, but only one goal in 13 games back in 2012 sent him back to the islanders.

In four seasons he only managed five league goals in 47 appearances and Ajaccio let him go to Tours on a free transfer. He joined up with his former manager Olivier Pantaloni, who had obviously seen enough of the striker to want him at his new club.

Pantaloni would not be disappointed. Delort started slowly, scoring seven goals up until the end of 2013, he would get motoring in 2014, scoring 10 times in the last eight games of the season.

Delort plays perfectly on the shoulder of the last defender, using his excellent timing and pace to get in-behind the back line before unleashing his deadly right-foot. One of the perfect examples was the goal against Lens at the daunting Stade Felix Bollaert.

In front of 40,000 fans baying for bloody, Delort opened the scoring after just eight minutes, firing perfectly past France u-21 goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, finding the far corner. That goal alone sums up everything that Delort of capable of, and at just 22 he has the potential to become a very good striker.

Leicester City will be looking for players to keep them in the Premier League next season, it would be a risk to bring an untested 22-year-old to England, but it would be a low-cost transfer.

Nigel Pearson’s side are not the only team interested in Delort. Stuttgart, Southampton and Borussia Monchengladbach were also mentioned, plus his three goals against RC Lens have made them very interested in taking him to Ligue 1 with them next season.
