Gary Lineker reacts to Pochettino appointment on Twitter

A Tottenham Hotspur legend has posted his comments regarding the appointment of former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham Hotspur's ratification of their contractual agreement with incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino has gone down well with White Hart Lane legend Gary Lineker, as the former striker believes the appointment is in line with the club's attacking philosophy.

However, Lineker's statement did have certain caveats.

In the 14 years since the turn of the millennium, Spurs have had 12 alternative people man the dugout, with two of those - Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood - both having their contract terminated during their tenure's infancy.

Lineker hopes for an extended Pochettino stay.

He said on his social media account on Twitter: "Mauricio Pochettino is the new manager of Spurs. I needed to get that out quickly before they fire him!"

He added: "On a serious note, I like Pochettino's style of play. [It] could be a really good appointment if he's given time, support and a say in transfers.

"[I] feel for Saints fans and the possible disintegration of a team that promised so much."

Pochettino committed to a five-year deal in North London.
