Former City & Saints striker scores second hat-trick in a month in MLS

Ex Manchester City, Southampton & Charlton Athletic striker netted another hat-trick for the New York Red Bulls in an incredible 5-4 defeat to Chicago Fire.

Bradley Wright Phillips became the first Englishman to score a hat-trick in Major League Soccer last month, and has added another to make him the top-scorer in MLS with nine goals so far.

Despite his three goals, Wright-Phillips couldn’t help his side to victory, as they lost 5-4 to Chicago Fire in a simply pulsating game that provided a perfect advert for Major League Soccer on Sunday.

Chicago rookie, Harrison Shipp, also netted a hat-trick as the Fire grabbed their first win of the season at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.

Wright-Phillips, the son of Arsenal legend Ian Wright, moved to New York in 2013 after struggling to make enough of an impact in England.

He is now looking sharp and thriving at the Red Bulls, playing alongside former Gunner Thierry Henry who teed him up for his first on Saturday before earning the penalty that Wright-Phillips scored to secure his hat-trick.

The 29-year-old is certainly enjoying his football, and more English talents could be set to make the move to MLS sooner rather than later.

Here are the official MLS highlights from the game on Saturday -
