Report: Tottenham eye Martinez as new manager - would he move?

The latest reports in the British media are suggesting that Spurs could look to the Everton boss, who would have a decision to make over his future.

Tim Sherwood’s time at Tottenham is looking numbered, with a list of potential replacements being drawn up in the media and supposedly including Frank de Boer and Mauricio Pochettino.

However, a new man has been added into the frame today, as The Mirror suggest that the North London club are set to sound out Everton’s Roberto Martinez for the role.

Just how much truth there is to this story remains to be seen, but if this was the case do Spurs have a chance of landing the Spaniard?

There is no doubt that Martinez has done a fantastic job since moving to Goodison Park, despite the fact that the Toffees have missed out on Champions League qualification.

His brand of attacking, expansive football has been a joy to behold for the Merseyside fans, with Spurs’ own tradition offensive ethos fitting in with the way Martinez urges his sides to play.

However, to convince Martinez to jump ship after a solitary season at Everton would take some doing, as the former Wigan man surely wants to continue the Toffees’ development and fight for a top-four berth again next term.

We have seen in the past that Martinez is a loyal manager who is motivated by completing projects, as he is said to have turned down a number of Premier League clubs previously to continue his work at Wigan.

Although Spurs arguably have a bigger budget to spend than Everton, at the moment the sides are well matched, with the Goodison Park club set to finish above the North Londoners this season.

As such, as ideal as Martinez would be for Tottenham, convincing him to leave Everton seems like an almost impossible task.
