Manchester City veteran’s defiant message on Twitter

Pablo Zabaleta explains what victory over Everton means for Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Manchester City are now in pole position to win the Premier League for the first time since 2012.

The Citizens came from a goal down to get the better of Everton 3-2 at Goodison Park on Saturday and move level on 80 points with Liverpool.

Now, with both teams having played the same number of matches, Manuel Pellegrini’s side are on top of the standings because of their superior goal difference and are the favourites to clinch the championship.

It has not been an easy ride for City as they have slipped up on more than one occasion this season. However, one of their long-serving players and a very much under-rated star is confident of eventually seeing it through.

Pablo Zabaleta did not have the best of games against Everton on Saturday, but he was still effective and contributed to his side’s win. The 29-year-old has been a perennial figure in Pellegrini’s team, having scored one goal and provided five assists in 33 league matches.

The Argentina international has now taken to social networking site Twitter to express his joy and underline the importance of City’s win at Everton.

City’s next game is against Aston Villa at home on Wednesday and then they entertain West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium. Both matches are very much winnable, and given how the Manchester outfit have put together a run of three victories in a row, they seem set to end the season on a high.
