Demba Ba modest over excellent scoring form

Chelsea star Demba Ba has was modest over his excellent goalscoring form this season, labelling it ‘not bad’.

In a season where Jose Mourinho has frequently lamented his Chelsea side’s failure to score crucial goals, the Portuguese’s response was to sound out a big-money move for a top striker this summer.

The likes of Hulk, Cavani and Diego Costa have been linked with a move to the Blues, and according to the press in Spain, the latter has an extravagant €60m agreement to move to Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.

Funnily enough, however, one striker on Chelsea’s books has a goalscoring record comparable with those big names linked to the club, though he hasn’t had the opportunity to showcase his talent on a regular bases.

The man in question is Senegalese international Demba Ba, whose recent goalscoring form makes a mockery of his infrequent time spent on the pitch.

The 28-year-old former Newcastle United player has been the man of the moment in recent weeks, helping his side reach the Champions League semi-final with a late strike against Paris Saint-Germain and blowing the Premier League title challenge wide open by finding the net against Liverpool at Anfield.

Ba’s goal at Anfield was his eighth goal of the season, and after being pointed out he’d only played 900 minutes, a goal every 112 minutes, the Chelsea striker’s response was humble as a he preferred to focus on the team.

“Yeh, that’s not bad.” He told Chelsea TV referring to his record.

“I’ve always said, when I’ve been given the opportunity to play, I just want to show what I can do. And today I did, I’m very happy for the whole club, the whole team, not just for me personally.”

Chelsea’s victory closes the gap on Liverpool to just two points at the top of the Premier League table.

Despite the victory, Jose Mourinho remains nonchalant over his side’s chances of pipping the Reds and Manchester City to the title.
