Eden Hazard insists his mother Carine is the best footballer in his family.

Chelsea fans are sweating over the fitness of Eden Hazard at the moment – as it looks increasingly likely that the player might miss the crunch period of the season with a problem sustained against Paris Saint-Germain.

And there is good reason why they need him back. Hazard has been superb this season – form which has seen him nominated for both PFA Player and Young Player of the Season.

But of course football is in the Hazard blood.

Eden’s little brother Thorgan is already at Chelsea – and is currently out on loan at Zulte Waregem in Belgium. He was named the player of the season in Belgium for 2013 and has won the award for the 2013-14 season as well. Just yesterday he smashed home a 35-yard screamer against Genk and also has one international cap to his name.

On top of that there is Kyllan Hazard. The 19-year-old is also highly thought of while 11-year-old Ethan is said to be pretty decent as well.

And yesterday, with Eden Hazard joining Nemanja Matic in the Chelsea TV studio for Friday Night Live, he was asked by supporters on a phone-in section who the best player in the family was – and the answer might surprise you.

He said:

“There are four brothers. There’s me, Eden Hazard, 23. After is Thorgan, who is 21. Then it’s Kylian who is 19 and Ethan who is 11. They all play football. Who is the best? My mum! She was a player. Everybody plays football in our home.”

According to Eden it is his mother, Carine, who is the best.

She played in the Belgian Women’s First Division before quitting when becoming pregnant with Eden and interestingly he did not say his dad Thierry, who played with La Louviere in the Belgian second division, was the best.

In the future Eden and Thorgan look likely to play alongside each other for club and country – and it will be wise to remember the good genes that got them there.
