On this day: Bebe comments, Song should stay and 'Kiwi Messi' to Liverpool

On the 18th April 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 18th April 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 18th April 2013…

Alex should stay

A day after Rigobert Song revealed his cousin Alex was unhappy in his new Barcelona location Arsene Wenger was telling his former star to wait it out at the club.

Wenger was speaking about his former £17 million man - who had been linked with an immediate return to The Emirates after a tough start to Spanish life.

He said of the Cameroonian:

“My personal advice for him would be to give it another go and after two seasons he can still make a decision. There is no buy-back [clause] in his contract. I heard he wants to give it a go for another season, which you can understand because it’s the first season. I think he’s a quality player and sometimes the players have to insist when it doesn’t go well and not change his mind too soon.”

New Zealand international Marco Rojas was teasing Liverpool fans by admitting he was on his way to Europe.

The then Melbourne Victory winger was linked with a move to The Reds and stated:

“It's every footballer's dream to play in Europe and I'm about to live that dream very soon.”

In the end he did not make his way to Anfield. In fact he joined VfB Stuttgart and it has been a toil for the youngster - who is still waiting to make his Bundesliga debut after suffering a broken foot.

Cry Bebe

In the modern day Manchester United flop Bebe is being linked with a sensational return for next season - and he is also said to be attracting the interest of SL Benfica after hitting a fine run of form.

But a year ago today he made some quite sensational comments about his time at Old Trafford.

He said:

“I never took Manchester United seriously and never understood a word about what Alex Ferguson was saying. I thought, ‘I’m here, I’m doing well and I don’t have to try hard every day’. It was my fault. I was messing around too much".

Fergie is gone and Bebe is banging in the goals back in Portugal - maybe Moyes will make a man of him yet.
