After the success of Anthony Knockaert and Riyah Mahrez, Leicester City are targeting another exciting player playing in France.

After 10 years outside England’s top division, Leicester City secured their return to the Premier League last weekend and will now be looking towards strengthening the side for next season.

Manager Nigel Pearson and the Leicester staff have had a lot of success buying players from France recently and it looks like they are targeting players from across the channel once again.

After joining Valenciennes on loan from Russian side Spartak Moscow, Ghanaian striker Majeed Waris has been a revelation in northern France. The 22-year-old has scored nine goals since arriving in January, and with VA trying to save their place in Ligue 1, the forward has been on a one man crusade to try and save them.

It has been reported in the French media that Leicester have shown an interest in recent weeks and it would possibly link the Valenciennes loanee with French wingers Anthony Knockaert and Riyad Mahrez, both who have impressed since joining from France in recent seasons.

Knockaert joined Leicester City from Guingamp and has become one of Pearson’s most important weapons in this season’s promotion campaign. Mahrez joined from Le Havre in the winter and after finding his feet in England has impressed the Foxes fans with his performances on the wing.

The success of Knockaert and Mahrez has continued Leicester’s interest in the French leagues and Waris will have caught the eye since moving to Valenciennes this season. The forward has played on the wing and through the centre, and in both positions he has shown great pace getting beyond defenders and of course his keen eye for goal. His finishing has been clinical, finding the corner time and time again with his right-foot.

Leicester City aren’t the only side to have shown an interest in Waris. Everton were linked a few years ago and have had the forward watched again in recent weeks. Over the past few weeks it has been reported that English sides West Bromich Albion, Newcastle United and Hull City have had representatives in France to cast their eye over the Ghanaian.

Waris is due to win a place in Ghana’s squad for the World Cup in June, and once he has a chance to impress on the world stage there will be a whole host of clubs interested in the Spartak Moscow forward.
