When it comes to the best active Premier League player, many a pundit will lean toward Liverpool asset Luis Suarez, who now stands alone as the only player to ever wear the renowned red of Merseyside to have scored 29 goals in a single campaign - his most recent, of course, arrived yesterday, as the Anfield side put visiting Tottenham Hotspur to the sword.
Others may feel more inclined to nominate Eden Hazard, a prolific creator of chances at Chelsea (87 to be precise) and an attacker who is on the ball once every 1.28 minutes on average due to his 2,135 combined touches from 32 appearances thus far in the division.
However, for one legendary member of Arsenal's Invincible team - Patrick Vieira, now on the senior staff at Manchester City, tireless midfield all-rounder Yaya Toure tops the lot.
"People talk about Suarez and Hazard – and let me say that they are two players I really admire – but when it comes to scoring goals, making goals and performing at a high level in the most important matches, they don’t even get close to Yaya," explained Vieira in the Sunday Mirror.
"I’m not sure Suarez has scored enough goals against the really big teams in the really big games. And it’s exactly the same with Hazard. We are talking about two terrific players for Liverpool and Chelsea. But Yaya Toure has scored more than 20 goals from central midfield – and as an all-round footballer he has absolutely everything.
"No-one has come close to him this season."
